SHAH ALAM, June 9 — About 21 homeowners received compounds from the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) yesterday for hosting potential Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.
MPAJ’s dengue prevention enforcement operation involved inspections at neighbourhoods in the dengue hotspots of Flat Pandan Mewah, Sri Pandan Condominium and Hatta Square.
A total of 970 premises were visited during the exercise, with 220 properties inspected.
“This operation was carried out jointly with the Hulu Langat District Health Office and was focused on discovering and destroying potential mosquito breeding grounds,” MPAJ in a statement.
It said compounds were issued under Section 74 of the Local Government Act 1976 to residents found to have mosquito breeding sites in their homes.
Besides offences related to mosquito breeding, enforcers also issued 23 compounds to owners of abandoned vehicles found in these areas.
The local council urged residents to play an active role in preventing dengue by ensuring their surroundings are clean and free of stagnant water that could become Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.
MPAJ also encouraged communities to organise regular community cleanups to maintain cleanliness and lower the risk of dengue outbreaks in neighbourhoods.
