KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — Two moderate earthquakes struck the Mindanao region in the Philippines within a span of two hours today, but posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said the latest quake, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale, occurred at 7.22pm.
In a Facebook post, it said the epicentre was detected at a depth of 48km, about 112km southeast of Koronadal City, Philippines.
Earlier, a moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale was recorded at 5.17pm at a depth of 10km, with its epicentre located 171km northwest of the Talaud Islands, Indonesia.
So far, 15 people have been reported killed and at least 134 others injured following a 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao at 7.37am today.
