SEPANG, June 8 — A driver has been detained for allegedly offering illegal transport services to three foreign tourists at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 during a recent enforcement operation.
The Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) said the arrest was made following intelligence gathering and surveillance conducted by the KLIA Enforcement Station on June 6.
“A Proton Saga and its driver were detained and the vehicle was seized for further investigation,” it said in a statement.
Preliminary investigations found that the suspect allegedly approached, persuaded and offered transportation services to three Pakistani nationals from KLIA Terminal 1 to the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Kuala Lumpur.
“The fare for the journey was set at RM60 and was to be paid upon arrival at the destination,” the department said.
JPJ said the activity was believed to have been carried out without a valid licence and was classified as illegal touting.
“Anyone found guilty may face action under Section 205(1) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (APAD 2010).
“If convicted, the individual may be fined up to RM50,000, imprisoned for up to five years, or both,” it said.
Those found abetting such activities may also face action under Section 243(1) of the same Act.
The public is advised to use only authorised transport services, either through the designated counters at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2 or by booking through e-hailing applications.
Traffic-related complaints may be submitted via email at aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my or through the e-Aduan@JPJ application, together with complete details of the complainant and the complaint.
