SHAH ALAM, June 3 — Selangor continues to expand its international network of cooperation by exploring strategic opportunities with Uzbekistan’s Fergana region in high-potential sectors including technology, food security, water management and industry development, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He added that this was discussed during a courtesy visit paid to him by Fergana Governor Hayrullo Khayitbayevich Bazarov, who is on an official trip to Malaysia.
He said the meeting opened doors to more practical and mutually beneficial collaborations, which could catalyse both parties’ trade, investment, and economic development.
“Selangor shared (about) its strength as a national economic driver, including in the hi-tech manufacturing, semiconductor ecosystem, halal industry, aerospace, life sciences, data centre, and digital economy sectors.
“Both parties also explored collaboration opportunities in research and development, especially in tech-based industries that could harness each other’s strengths,” he said in a Facebook post.
Other than technology sectors, food security and agroindustry also dominated the discussion, with the Fergana delegation voicing interest in expanding agriculture product exports to Malaysia.
Amirudin said both quarters exchanged views on efforts to strengthen the logistics network and address supply chain challenges to facilitate trade and investment flow between Central Asia and Southeast Asia.
He added that collaborations in water management and environmental sustainability were also discussed, with Selangor poised to share its experience in governance and water infrastructure development via technical expertise exchange.
According to him, both quarters also agreed to continue discussions and facilitate a reciprocal trip involving government agencies and industry players in the next few months to identify fields of cooperation that can be realised.
Amirudin said the meeting reflected an increasingly close relationship as he received a special gift of doppi and chopon — traditional Uzbek attire — to commemorate Selangor-Fergana ties.
