SHAH ALAM, June 3 — Banting assemblyman Papparaidu Veraman today urged Kuala Langat residents to cooperate with efforts to eradicate Aedes mosquito breeding grounds as dengue cases keep rising, at 527 cases and one death up to May.
He said residents must spend at least 10 minutes every week on checking and destroying potential Aedes breeding grounds in their homes.
“I also urge councillors, village heads, Indian community heads and local leaders to keep holding community cleanups with residents to ensure public areas are always clean and free of mosquitoes,” he added in a Facebook statement.
Papparaidu, who is also state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication, shared data released by the Kuala Langat District Health Office on the local dengue situation.
According to the data, five localities are still active, with four of them — Taman Langat Jaya (two cases), Bandar Saujana Putra 21 Blocks A and B (two cases), Jalan Sekolah Kampung Jenjarom (two cases), and Taman Perindustrian Puchong (three cases) — categorised as under control.
Meanwhile, the dengue situation in Bandar Seri Ehsan is uncontrolled with six cases, comprising the areas of Jalan 4/25, 4/28, 4/31, 4/33 and 4/34.
The assemblyman said efforts to prevent dengue requires multipartisan cooperation, especially to ensure residential areas are clean and free of stagnant water that could become Aedes breeding grounds.
“Dengue could be prevented if we act together. Cleanliness is our shared responsibility,” Papparaidu added.
