SHAH ALAM, June 24 — Repair works on the roof of SK Bukit Raya in Hulu Langat, which was damaged by a storm, will commence this weekend using a RM200,000 emergency allocation.
Dusun Tua state assemblyman Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz said the Hulu Langat District Education Office immediately approved the use of emergency funds to ensure the continued safety of pupils and school staff.
“Repair works will begin this Saturday and Sunday. The work is being carried out over the weekend to avoid any risk to pupils during school hours.
“This measure is important to ensure pupils’ safety and to prevent any untoward incidents,” he told Media Selangor.
Johan added that the delay was due to procedures governing works at schools where an existing contractor was already operating on site when the incident occurred.
“Under the procedure, if a contractor is already carrying out repair works at a school, another contractor cannot enter the site until those works have been completed.
“At the time of the incident, a contractor was undertaking repairs to doors and toilets, so the roof repair works had to wait until those works were finished,” he said.
Previously, the damage to the school’s roof went viral on social media, raising public concerns about the safety of pupils and teachers and prompting the relevant authorities to take immediate action.
