SHAH ALAM, May 25 — The Rawang Bypass heading towards Serendah has been temporarily closed until 2.30pm today to allow repair works to be carried out following damage detected on the expansion joint (EJ).

The closure was implemented following complaints from road users and a viral video on May 22 regarding the condition of the component on FT37 Rawang Bypass.

Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said the Public Works Department (JKR) immediately conducted an inspection at the site upon receiving reports of the damage.

He said one lane was also temporarily closed, while traffic control measures were put in place throughout the inspection and repair works to ensure the safety of road users.

“Preliminary inspections found that the issue involves the expansion joint component.

“JKR will also replace the expansion joint for further repair works in the near future,” he said in a statement.

He also praised the swift action taken by JKR and all relevant agencies that immediately went to the ground to address the issue.

“I appreciate the prompt action by JKR and all agencies involved who immediately went on-site to ensure road user safety remains the top priority,” he said.

Motorists heading to Serendah have been advised to use the alternative FT01 Kuala Lumpur-Tanjung Malim route via Rawang town during the temporary closure.

The public has also been urged to remain patient and plan their journeys ahead to avoid traffic congestion in the affected area.
