SHAH ALAM, Oct 11 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) has launched an investigation into a viral post allegedly showing a Muslim individual performing religious rituals of another faith in violation of Islamic law.
JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said the investigation is being conducted under Sections 4 and 10 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995.
They relate to demonstrating worship in a manner contrary to Islamic law and causing Islam to be viewed with contempt.
“At this stage, JAIS has yet to confirm whether the act was committed by the individual concerned during the Thaipusam celebration at Batu Caves, Selangor, as circulated on social media.
“JAIS also does not rule out the possibility that the post involved superimposed editing or artificial intelligence (AI),” he said in a statement yesterday.
Shahzihan said several aspects of the case, including the location of the incident, will be investigated promptly to establish JAIS’ jurisdiction before any further action is taken.
He said the department views matters involving the Islamic faith of Muslims in Selangor seriously and will ensure that all information and complaints are investigated professionally, firmly, promptly, accurately and fairly.
