SHAH ALAM, May 22 — The state government is especially concerned about land issues affecting several Orang Asli villages in Klang as some still haven’t been gazetted, said state executive councillor for Orang Asli and minority affairs Papparaidu Veraman.
He added that this matter was brought up at the Klang District Orang Asli Land Gazettement Meeting he chaired at the Klang District and Land Office operations room yesterday.
According to him, there are two more Orang Asli villages in the district that are awaiting gazettement — Kampung Orang Asli Pulau Indah and Kampung Orang Asli Pulau Ketam.
“Kampung Orang Asli Pulau Indah has 22 households with around 72 residents and still needs land surveying works before the gazettement process can continue.
“Kampung Orang Asli Pulau Ketam has around 20 households with 70 residents and is still in the process of gazettement,” he said in a Facebook statement.
Papparaidu also said the land Kampung Orang Asli Bagan Hailam sits on has been gazetted, but the area is unoccupied due to frequent floods at high tide, eroded embankments, and the muddy ground.
He added that the villagers don’t have a cemetery and have to bring their deceased loved ones to Pulau Carey for funerals.
He added that he also brought up a land issue affecting the Orang Asli in Bukit Kemuning, concerning a land acquisition application.
“I hope all matters involving the gazettement of Orang Asli village land can be expedited so the Orang Asli community’s rights and interests are ensured and protected,” Papparaidu said.
