SHAH ALAM, May 21 — Immediate reconstruction, upgrade, and cleaning works have been ordered following a site inspection yesterday to address natural surface water runoff issues and flash floods affecting residents along Jalan 3 and Jalan 4 in Taman Seri Batang Kali.
The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) said that the actions taken during the site visit included constructing and improving an earth drain on PAID land by developer Ligamas, as well as creating a new earth drain running from the slope area into the existing drainage framework.
Meanwhile, KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) will undertake comprehensive drain cleaning operations, complemented by continuous monitoring and follow-up site inspections once these works are completed.
The site visit was led by Kuala Kubu Baharu assemblyman Pang Sock Tao, alongside MPHS secretary and deputy president Dewi Dirwana Munasir, Zone 12 councillor Law Say Hin, MPHS Engineering Department director Sharifah Atan, as well as council representatives, the Hulu Selangor District and Land Office, the Hulu Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department, PAID, Ligamas, and KDEBWM.
The inspection revealed that the residential area receives heavy natural surface water flowing downward from the upper slopes and hills, particularly during high-intensity rainfall.
MPHS said the excess water from nearby development sites also affected an existing earth drain before discharging into a nearby sump.
It confirmed that the cascade drain structure has failed to function optimally, causing water to overflow onto the road surface and placing severe pressure on the existing drainage network.
“This coordinated effort is executed to ensure the drainage system operates efficiently and mitigate risks of recurring overflow incidents for the affected area,” MPHS said in a statement.
