MBSA seizes unlicensed advertising signs in Kota Kemuning

SHAH ALAM, May 17 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) increased enforcement actions against unlawful advertising structures by tearing down and seizing 22 units of unlicensed advertising signs in an integrated operation surrounding Kota Kemuning on Friday (May 15).

The operation, which ran from 9.30am to 4pm, was conducted by its Licensing Department to ensure that all premises owners complied with the MBSA Advertisement By-Laws 2007.

MBSA said the enforcement involved three operating groups focusing on multiple areas surrounding Persiaran Anggerik Mokara, Bulatan Mokara, and the Aranda area.

“During the operation, 42 unlicensed advertising signs were identified, and 22 units were taken down and seized for further action.

“The remaining signs that were not taken down will be subject to follow-up action, including charges and seizure,” it said in a Facebook post.

The majority of the offences involved the installation of signs on road reserves without permission and non-compliance with the specifications set out in the MBSA Advertisement By-Laws 2007.

"All confiscated items have been taken to the Section 31/60 Storage Depot for further action.

"The council will also impose charges for the confiscation and operating costs on the owners of the unlicensed advertising signs," MBSA said.

The integrated operation was led by MBSA senior assistant director Zakaria Mat Piah, together with the Licensing Department's assistant director Siti Sakina Mohd Azman and MBSA's Kota Kemuning branch office senior assistant enforcement officer Harris Osman, in collaboration with the Enforcement Department, the Engineering Department, the Waste Sanitation and Sustainability Department, and the Corporate and Public Relations Department.

Also present were Shah Alam councillors Muhammad Nabil Norhalim and Jacky Ng Chee Eng, who are also the Residents' Representative Council (MPP) Zone 11 and MPP Zone 12 chairman, respectively.
