SHAH ALAM, May 9 — The organisation of Selangor Mega Food Festival continues to be the primary stage for highlighting the state’s heritage food, simultaneously strengthening the local culinary identity.
Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling said the festival gathers over 100 local entrepreneurs of traditional, modern, and viral social media food producers.
She noted that heritage food is not marginalised every time it takes place, as it includes the introduction of dishes such as punten, nasi ambeng, and Kajang satay as state identities.
“In every festival that we organise, we not only highlight modern or viral food, but at the same time emphasise traditional foods as state heritage.
“We also share the history and traditions of these foods so that visitors not only enjoy the meal, but also gain new knowledge,” Chua told Media Selangor.
This approach has been met with an extraordinary response from visitors, who show greater interest in traditional food than in ordinary food programmes.
She added that the festival is not only a sales platform but also a space for local entrepreneurs to build business networks and improve their marketing skills.
“Through this platform, entrepreneurs can interact, build networks and learn how to promote their product effectively, including to international tourists,” Chua said.
Tourism Selangor also collaborates with travel agents to ensure the festival is listed in the tourist itinerary packages as one of the main attractions in Selangor.
The Selangor Mega Food Festival is expected to continue this year, with the next organisation planned for the third quarter, featuring more interesting and comprehensive content.
