SYDNEY, May 9 — Selangor is open to exploring collaboration opportunities with Australia in the agriculture sector to address food security concerns arising from uncertainties in the global supply chain.
Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation) or MBI group chief executive officer Dato’ Saipolyazan M Yusop said potential areas of cooperation include the transfer of modern agricultural technology, the development of smart agro-food systems, and expertise training programmes aimed at strengthening the resilience of the state’s food sector.
“As the world faces uncertainties in global supply chains and the challenges of climate change, food security is no longer an option but a strategic priority that demands more innovative and sustainable approaches
“Australia is well known for its smart technology, food industry automation and efficient food security management. Therefore, we are open to exploring such collaboration,” he said when speaking at a dinner event with the Selangor diaspora and students in Australia last night.
Saipolyazan said Selangor is also committed to accelerating its green economy agenda and sustainable development efforts.
He said Australia’s experience in renewable energy development, particularly in solar power and green hydrogen, presents valuable opportunities for collaboration as Selangor works towards becoming a low-carbon and future-ready state.
“Cooperation in water resource management, climate change mitigation and sustainable urban development is also important in ensuring the well-being of the people and safeguarding the sustainability of the state’s development for future generations.”
Additionally, Saipolyazan highlighted strong potential for both sides to collaborate in smart city development, digital transformation and technological innovation, including in the tourism sector, which could serve as a model to further enrich Selangor’s tourism ecosystem.
