KTMB says 186 extra train trips set for Aidiladha, school holidays

KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has prepared 186 more Electric Train Service (ETS) and Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) Plus trips for Aidiladha and school holidays from May 22 to June 7.

KTMB said the additional trips mean 58,380 more seats to meet increased passenger demand, with tickets to be sold from noon tomorrow on the KITS Style app, KTMB website, and KTMB kiosk at some stations.

The number of tickets available for each round-trip route and their dates are as follows:

  • KL Sentral-Padang Besar-KL Sentral: 15,702 tickets (May 22-26, May 29-31, June 4-7)

  • KL Sentral-Butterworth-KL Sentral: 7,584 tickets (May 22-26, May 29-31, June 4-7)

  • KL Sentral-Ipoh-KL Sentral: 7,584 tickets (May 22-26, May 29-31, June 4-7)

  • KL Sentral-JB Sentral-KL Sentral: 18,960 tickets (May 22-26, May 29-31, June 1-7)

  • Klang-Ipoh-Klang EMU Plus: 9,180 tickets (May 22-24, May 29-31, June 5-7)

KTMB group chief executive officer Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri said there was encouraging response for previous added trips during the Chinese New Year and Aidilfitri holidays, especially for high-demand routes like the Johor Bahru sector.

He said the government’s Road to Rail campaign also effectively encouraged public transport use.

“The rise in demand reflects passenger confidence in the national rail service,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, sales for Ekspres Lambaian Aidiladha (ELA) to the East Coast announced on April 24 were encouraging, with 447 out of 912 tickets sold so far.

KTMB is also offering a 30 per cent discount for the ELA 1029 train from Tumpat to KL Sentral Superior Seater, limited to 274 seats from May 11, with tickets priced as low as RM56 from the usual RM80.
