SYDNEY, May 8 — Selangor students in Australia participating in an artificial intelligence (AI) certification programme conducted by the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) will be offered advanced courses to improve their employability.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the offer would be extended once the students returned to Malaysia, providing them with additional skills beyond their original fields of study.
“As part of the state government’s continued efforts to enhance graduate employability, STDC is conducting a short-term course this year.
“The certification programme by Google is expected to provide students with early exposure to the importance of AI in daily use. I will ensure those involved are offered advanced courses,” he said.
He said this while officiating the 2026 Selangor Overseas Students Convention Australia (KOMSEL) through a recorded message aired during the event at ParkRoyal Darling Harbour here last night.
Meanwhile, STDC chief executive officer Dr Harizal Hamid said the intensive three-day programme was designed to help students progress from ‘AI awareness’ to ‘AI implementation’.
He said the initiative included exposure to the use of Gemini, Vertex AI, search engine document development, multimodal applications, and responsible AI security management.
“Through this initiative, STDC also emphasises future talent development, AI sovereignty, technology cost efficiency, and the safe and ethical use of AI.
“STDC’s involvement on this international platform reflects its continued commitment to producing a new generation of young innovators capable of driving Selangor’s digital transformation,” he said in a statement.
