SHAH ALAM, May 6 — Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin has urged the people to learn from global geopolitical conflicts, warning that they not only claim lives but could affect economic stability, sociopolitical conditions, and global well-being.
Expressing concern over the situation, Her Royal Highness called on the public to stay abreast of developments, understand national priorities, and be prepared to face uncertainties with wisdom and responsibility.
“I call on all Malaysians to continue praying that our country and the region are protected from the adverse effects of these conflicts,” Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin said at the first session of Universiti Teknologi MARA’s (UiTM) 104th convocation ceremony at the campus’ Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor here today.
Earlier, the Royal consort conferred postgraduate degrees on 290 doctoral and clinical specialist master’s candidates. Also present was UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Shahrin Sahib@Sahibuddin.
Amid rapid technological change and shifts in the global economic landscape, Her Royal Highness advised graduates to remain adaptable, think critically and stay competitive, while upholding values such as integrity, good conduct and responsibility.
Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also expressed appreciation to UiTM for its continued role in developing the nation’s talent, stressing that the institution must uphold its mandate, particularly in safeguarding the rights of Malays, Orang Asli, and indigenous communities of Sabah and Sarawak, in line with constitutional provisions.
“It is our shared responsibility to ensure UiTM continues to play its role in upholding the special position of Malays and indigenous of Sabah and Sarawak, while safeguarding the legitimate interests of other communities as provided for in the constitution.
“UiTM must remain true to this mandate, and I do not consent to any attempt to alter or undermine its founding purpose,” said the Royal consort, who is also UiTM pro-chancellor.
Her Royal Highness congratulated former Sabah state secretary Datuk Kee Mustafa on his appointment as UiTM pro-chancellor, expressing hope that he would contribute to the university’s excellence.
Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also congratulated 25,336 graduates on completing their studies and thanked their parents and families for their support.
The Royal consort expressed hope that graduates would uphold the university’s reputation as its ambassadors, noting that their achievements mark the beginning of greater challenges ahead.
Her Royal Highness added that UiTM must continue to produce knowledgeable, ethical and patriotic graduates capable of contributing to the nation’s future.
“As a multicultural nation, we must continue to foster mutual respect across religions and cultures to preserve unity and well-being,” Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin said.
