SHAH ALAM, June 24 — Selangor is continuing to strengthen its creative economy agenda and the preservation of local heritage through a proposal to organise KRAF Selangor: Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Cup 2026, which will focus on expanding the batik industry and the traditional art of telepuk as economic assets for the state.
State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the proposal was presented to the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin during a royal audience at Istana Bukit Kayangan yesterday, attended by a delegation from the Standing Committee on Entrepreneur Empowerment and Creative Economy.
“I had the honour of presenting the state government’s proposal to organise KRAF Selangor: Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Cup 2026.
“The initiative aims to elevate the batik industry and the heritage art of telepuk as key economic assets of the state,” he said in a Facebook post.
Aside from discussing the proposal, Najwan presented Her Royal Highness with a commemorative gift: an acrylic-on-canvas painting by fine arts and design graduate Syafiqah Sanusi.
The artwork features motifs inspired by traditional batik sarongs, enhanced with three-dimensional elements that highlight the intricacy of the artistic technique while reflecting the uniqueness and aesthetic value of Malaysia’s batik heritage.
