SEPANG, May 4 — Malaysia is strengthening its commitment to supporting the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 by ensuring humanitarian aid reaches the Gaza Strip in Palestine, despite facing various challenges.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said that to date, about 100 containers of aid have been delivered via land routes, including 40,000 tins of meat as essential supplies for residents.
“This effort requires careful planning as well as adherence to certain protocols before the aid can cross borders and reach its intended destination.
“We will provide updates from time to time because this area is not a safe zone, and all parties must respect the laws and regulations in place,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking at a special media conference on the latest developments of the mission at the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre today.
He also emphasised that Malaysia is the only country providing official government-level recognition to the mission, reflecting the nation’s firm stance on humanitarian issues in Palestine.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has also played a key role as the mission's patron, both in his official capacity and as an individual, to ensure continued support for the aid efforts.
The Menteri Besar noted that Malaysia’s approach will hopefully serve as an example to other countries to extend recognition and broaden support for humanitarian missions globally.
The continued commitment of all parties is crucial to ensure that aid reaches those in need while strengthening global solidarity with the Palestinian people.
On April 4, Amirudin was also entrusted by Anwar with leading Malaysia’s Emergency Aid Mission to Gaza and the GSF 2.0 delegation.
It was spearheaded by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation, in collaboration with Cinta Gaza Malaysia, several other NGOs, and strategic partners.
The initiative aims to deliver 30 containers carrying 374 tonnes of humanitarian aid to help alleviate the suffering of Gaza's residents.
