SEPANG, Aug 26 — A special Disaster Management Committee meeting will be held tomorrow to review developments in the haze situation in Selangor and determine the immediate action that needs to be taken.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the meeting, to be chaired by State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin, will comprehensively discuss the current situation before the latest directives and information are issued to the public.
“I would like to inform you that during the State Executive Council (MMKN) meeting, we discussed the haze situation in Selangor and are monitoring it closely.
“Tomorrow, the State Secretary will lead the Disaster Management Committee meeting to look in detail at what is happening and the haze situation, while also issuing the latest information and directives specifically for the people of Selangor.
“We want to determine what actions can be taken, and under what circumstances, so that everyone can respond appropriately,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking to the media after the presentation ceremony for the Muassasah Hajj incentive contributions to the Dengkil state constituency today.
During the event, which was also attended by state executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah, he presented the incentives to 259 eligible recipients.
Commenting on the haze situation in the state, Amirudin said the current situation has yet to reach critical mass, but the air quality readings have shown a trend towards increasingly unhealthy conditions over the past few days.
“More crucially, this time I advise people to reduce outdoor physical activities. Those experiencing respiratory problems such as asthma should consult a doctor to prevent any complications.
“We have not yet reached a critical level, but the trend towards increasingly unhealthy conditions has become more pronounced over the past two or three days.
“A statement will be issued by Health EXCO Jamaliah Jamaluddin shortly to explain the matter in detail. However, we will discuss it at the MMKN meeting, and importantly, tomorrow there will be a State Security Committee meeting to examine developments concerning the haze in Selangor,” he said.
Earlier this morning, five locations in Selangor recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in the unhealthy range, based on data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System portal.
Johan Setia recorded the highest reading in the state at 161, followed by Shah Alam (158), Banting (151), Klang (135), and Petaling Jaya (112).
All the readings were in the unhealthy category, with API readings ranging from 101 to 200.
Following this, the state executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation culture Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah advised Muslims, particularly mosque and surau congregations in affected areas, to wear face masks as a health precaution.
He also advised the public to drink more warm water, especially when in areas recording poor air quality.
