Selangor firm on August deadline for Sungai Buloh nurseries

AMPANG JAYA, Apr 27 — The Selangor government is maintaining its stance to grant an extension only until the end of August for nursery operators along Jalan Sungai Buloh to vacate the site before the elevated road widening project at KWASA Damansara begins in September.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari stressed that while parties are free to pursue legal action, the development process must proceed for the benefit of millions, particularly in Selangor.

“They have taken the matter to court to block the order. We respect that as their right and choice. We have presented our proposals, and not all have rejected them as some have accepted the offers we made.

“We take the view that they are occupying the land unlawfully, and we have offered several relocation options. This has not been a year-long discussion, but one that has spanned several years.

“However, we have no choice because otherwise several projects will be delayed. These plans are for the benefit of millions of people in Malaysia, especially in Selangor. We will proceed as planned to ensure the projects continue.

“If not, millions will be affected as this involves highway and other development projects. These have been planned by developers and the government,” he said after officiating the presentation ceremony of the 2026 Muassasah Haj Incentive contributions at Masjid Al-Hidayah Taman Melawati here yesterday.

Previously, executive officer for infrastructure Dato’ Izham Hashim said the state government had granted an extension until the end of August for nursery operators along Jalan Sungai Buloh to vacate the site ahead of the elevated road widening project at KWASA Damansara, which is scheduled to begin in September.

Izham said the extension was given after considering appeals from operators, although the eviction process has been ongoing since 2019 and all related procedures have been carried out, including approval by the State Executive Council since 2021 as well as several rounds of official notices.

He said 38 operators involving 66 lots are affected by the eviction, with some operators holding more than one lot.

He added that the state government has also provided ex gratia payments of RM10,000 per lot, amounting to a total of RM660,000, although 14 lots have yet to be claimed.
