SHAH ALAM, April 24 — Selangor is strengthening youth preparedness to face the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution by expanding more practical, industry-focused and accessible technical skills courses.
State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the initiative, implemented through the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC), covers fields such as data analysis, machine learning, and intelligent automation, in line with current industry demands.
“This approach is important so that youths not only understand the basic concepts, but are able to develop real solutions that can be applied in the industrial sector.
“At the same time, intensive training programmes such as AI bootcamps, hackathons, and micro-credential certification programmes should be expanded to provide more flexible and faster learning pathways.
“Initiatives like these enable youths from various backgrounds, including non-technical fields, to enter the AI sector without relying entirely on traditional academic pathways,” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
Najwan added that the STDC is also collaborating with industry players and higher education institutions to support talent development in AI.
These partnerships provide greater opportunities for industrial training, collaborative projects and programmes focused on solving real-world problems.
“At the community level, organisations such as Penggerak Belia Selangor (PeBS) can play an important role in introducing early exposure to AI through basic workshops, technology awareness programmes and knowledge-sharing sessions with industry practitioners,"
“This is crucial to build interest and confidence among youths, especially those from rural or lower-income communities,” he said.
