PUTRAJAYA, April 22 — A total of 155,000 civil servants have registered to work from home (WFH) since the policy took effect on April 15, resulting in an estimated savings of 334,000 litres of fuel, equivalent to RM678,000, as of yesterday, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
The Madani Government spokesman said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar briefed the Cabinet on the policy’s progress at a meeting today.
During a post-Cabinet media briefing on the global supply crisis, Fahmi highlighted that the WFH policy is among the government’s measures to manage the impact of global supply disruptions, while also optimising resources more efficiently.
Fahmi added that Shamsul Azri has been ordered to gather information from the private sector on WFH arrangements to assess total savings achievable.
“This is important to provide a comprehensive picture of how effective WFH initiatives are in reducing fuel consumption and operational costs,” he said.
The government will continue to review and strengthen WFH to ensure more sustainable resource management amid global uncertainty, Fahmi explained.
The WFH policy for the public sector took effect on April 15 as a strategic government measure to strengthen national resilience against global supply disruptions following the conflict in West Asia.
