PUTRAJAYA, Aug 31 — Fifteen government hospitals will receive RM1 billion to boost their digital efficiency, said Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi, who is also Madani Government spokesman, said the funds, increased from RM650 million, would expedite the activation of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and internet access at government clinics and hospitals.
“I will hold a discussion, initially 15 hospitals are expected to be completed but I will ask that this figure be increased more, and from 2,000 health clinics, we will try to increase the number that can be managed for this year,” he said when met by reporters after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim delivered his Merdeka address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here yesterday.
Fahmi said the pilot EMR system at Padang Besar Health Clinic has allowed doctors to access patient information electronically and saving time for those seeking treatment.
He also said the Communications Ministry will ensure Anwar’s messages on various government aid initiatives are effectively conveyed to people.
Meanwhile, he said more information will be announced later on free AI app subscriptions for 100,000 youth aged 18 to 30 if they participate in the AI For The People programme.
Earlier, Anwar announced six initiatives in conjunction with Merdeka, including the RM1 billion to reduce waiting times through the EMR system.
He also announced the restoration of the BUDI95 basic monthly quota to 300 litres and BUDI Diesel to 400 litres, increase of the e-Invoice exemption threshold to RM3 million per year, as well as free AI subscriptions for youth.
Anwar added that schools will receive 50 per cent more in maintenance funding next year from RM1 billion to RM1.5 billion, introduced a RM200 million Madani Sejahtera Grant to help hawkers and stay-at-home mums running businesses, and announced that microfinancing allocations will be increased by RM1 billion, bringing the total fund for 2026 to RM6 billion.
