Selangor KPDN foils attempt to misappropriate 3,400 litres of subsidised diesel

SHAH ALAM, April 18 — The Selangor branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has foiled an attempt to misappropriate approximately 3,400 litres of subsidised diesel during a patrol in the Pandamaran area of Klang early this morning.

State chief enforcement officer Mohd Hanizam Kechek said the success was a result of continuous monitoring by seven KPDN Selangor offices to ensure subsidised fuel reaches its intended targets transparently and systematically.

"At around 1am, patrol officers spotted a bonded lorry parked suspiciously in the Pandamaran area. Inspections revealed six Intermediate Bulk Containers, with 1,000 litres capacity each, containing suspected subsidised diesel.

“The lorry had also been modified with connecting hoses and a meter pump," he said in a statement today.

Hanizam added that the driver, in his 20s, attempted to flee but was apprehended by swift-acting enforcement officers and could not produce valid documentation for possessing and transporting scheduled fuel.

Initial investigations revealed that he is believed to have filled up with diesel at several nearby petrol stations, based on purchase receipts found on him.

"The estimated amount of diesel is approximately 3,400 litres, with a total seizure value exceeding RM100,000. This operation also successfully prevented an estimated RM20,000 in national subsidy leakage," he said.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, with Hanizam noting that other parties may be implicated.

"We will not compromise with any party that violates the law, and investigations will be extended to include the petrol station premises involved.

“If convicted, an individual may face a fine of up to RM1 million, or imprisonment of up to three years, or both, while a company may be fined up to RM2 million for a first offence," he said.

Meanwhile, KPDN Selangor has affirmed its commitment to tightening enforcement, including considering action against the misuse of facilities under the Subsidised Diesel Control System, and urges the public to channel information through official channels.
