SHAH ALAM, April 18 — The implementation of housing projects under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) has achieved 98.77 per cent of its target after more than 59,000 units of Rumah Selangorku were successfully completed.

State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said 60,000 units were targeted for completion within five years, placing the state administration close to achieving its goal.

“Throughout the planning period of RS-1, a total of 59,263 Rumah Selangorku units were offered compared with the target of 60,000 units. This means we have achieved 98.77 per cent.

“This indirectly reflects good and consistent implementation performance. This effort is the result of cooperation from all parties, including developers and government agencies,” he told Media Selangor.

Acknowledging that managing public housing issues is not easy, Borhan said Selangor is home to more than 7.5 million residents, making it one of the most densely populated states in Malaysia.

In response, the state government has adopted a comprehensive approach to ensure every group can own a home through the implementation of RS-1, which began in 2021.

“We now have more than 7.5 million residents. If we compare, that number is equivalent to the combined population of Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor.

“When our population is large, essential needs such as infrastructure, including housing, will certainly become a key element in Selangor’s development strategy,” he said.

Borhan added that most affordable housing projects are concentrated in urban areas, with Kajang recording the highest number at about 11,000 units, followed by Shah Alam with around 9,000 units, and Selayang with about 8,000 units.

“We focus on areas with large populations because we do not want property development in those areas to become uncontrolled, and they also have a high level of accessibility,” he said.

Launched in 2021, RS-1 is a comprehensive five-year development plan (2021-2025) aimed at transforming Selangor into a smart, liveable and prosperous state.

The state government has emphasised efforts to provide affordable homes for low- and middle-income groups, in line with its goal of creating sustainable, liveable development.
