SHAH ALAM, April 16 — The pork supply in Selangor remains stable and sufficient even though all pig farms in the state have been ordered to cease operations.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the current demand is being fully met through imported sources from outside the state, in line with a decree by the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.
He said that the state government does not have detailed information regarding the sources of pork supply, as the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal government.
“The issue is under the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry, and based on the reports I have received, pork supply at present is sufficient.
“At this point, the decision is final, and we are complying with His Royal Highness' decree that there will no longer be pig farming in Selangor,” Amirudin said during a press conference today.
He was responding to questions regarding the latest developments on pork supply in the state.
In January, the Sultan decreed that all pig farming activities across Selangor districts must be stopped.
His Royal Highness said that such activities could lead to air pollution due to unpleasant odours, as well as contaminate river water sources through the discharge of waste and effluent.
