KUANTAN, April 16 — Four men were hurt, with one suffering serious injuries, when a hydraulic tank exploded in a workplace accident at a steel factory operated by a company in the Gebeng industrial area in Pahang this morning.
Kuantan district police chief ACP Ashari Abu Samah said the 9.30am incident involved one local man and three foreign nationals aged between 29 and 49.
“Preliminary investigations at the scene found that the incident is believed to have been caused by an explosion involving industrial equipment, namely the hydraulic tank of a steel-binding machine within the premises,” he said in a statement.
All of the victims were taken to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital by the company’s ambulance for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the police are working closely with relevant parties, including the factory management as well as occupational safety and health agencies, to determine the exact cause of the incident.
