SHAH ALAM, April 10 — The RM481 million Sungai Damansara flood mitigation project, aimed at preventing overflows into Kota Damansara, will be completed by 2031, said Kota Damansara assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim.
He added that the high-impact project involves the entire Sungai Damansara network, including flood-prone areas like Jalan Merbau, Jalan Tembusu, and Jalan PKNS in Kampung Melayu Subang.
“When it is done, this project is expected to reduce overall recurrent floods in affected areas,” he told Media Selangor.
He added that the project was approved and awarded to a contractor, and is now in the design stage.

Izuan also said that in the meantime, short-term measures are underway to prevent floods in the area.
“Among immediate measures are excavation, widening and deepening works on the river and main water channels in Kampung Melayu Subang.
“In Section U5, three retention ponds were identified for maintenance and deepening to hold back some water from overflowing into residential areas,” he added.
Izuan said low-lying areas like in Section U4 are causing water to backflow and stagnate, which gives rise to floods.
He added that immediate aid has been channelled to victims every time a flood occurs.
“RM100,000 to RM150,000 has been channelled since I became assemblyman, including for food, clothing, and basic necessities.
“Every time it floods, immediate aid is channelled to ease residents’ burdens,” Izuan said.
