SHAH ALAM, April 10 — Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with China’s Qingdao Automotive Research Institute of Jilin University to strengthen research and training in the new energy vehicle sector.
UNISEL said the MOU, inked in cooperation with Consortium Technical Education (CONTeCT), is aligned with the global automotive industry’s rapid transition to greener, more sustainable technology.
UNISEL president and vice-chancellor Prof Emeritus Dato’ Hassan Basri said the deal is a significant step in fortifying the education ecosystem and research based on future technologies.
He added that the cooperation not only facilitates the sharing of expertise and technology, but could produce high-skill workers who fulfil industry needs.
“This visit is an important step towards building potential cooperations between institutions, especially in realising the establishment of the new Electric Vehicle Research and Training Centre in UNISEL,” Hassan said in a statement.
The MOU signing ceremony was held at UNISEL on Wednesday, between Hassan, Jilin University deputy executive president Prof Guo Fei, and CONTeCT chairman Zaharan Ibrahim.
The Jilin University and CONTeCT delegations were also given a tour of the UNISEL campus, including the Engineering and Life Sciences Faculty’s laboratories, which are the backbone of the university’s research development and technical training.
Meanwhile, Guo said Jilin University formed a partnership with Malaysia’s National TVET Council in 2024, providing the UNISEL project with a strong foundation.
“The execution of training programmes in Malaysia gives both parties strategic advantages, especially in expanding access to international-level technical education,” Guo added.
The partnership will combine various existing training programmes from both universities to develop an integrated learning model that blends theories, industrial training, and practical skill-building, the first of its kind in Malaysia.
