KUCHING, April 7 — The Sarawak Brigade General Operations Force (GOF), together with several enforcement agencies, carried out 10 raids under Op Hazard 3.0 at multiple locations across the state yesterday, with total seizures amounting to RM1.82 million.
Sarawak Brigade commander SAC Lim Bak Phai said the raids were conducted in Kuching, Sri Aman, Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri.
“The operation led to the detention of 12 individuals, including two foreigners, suspected of engaging in the collection and processing of e-waste without complying with licensing requirements and legal provisions.
“The seizures included various e-waste components such as electrical wires and cables, electronic parts, used batteries, tyres, as well as processing equipment, in addition to vehicles and containers believed to have been used for the activities,” he said in a statement today.
Lim added that the operation was conducted to curb illegal e-waste management activities that could potentially harm the environment and public safety.
“Firm action will be taken against any parties involved in such unlawful activities. All detainees and seized items have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further action in accordance with their respective jurisdictions.
“The Sarawak GOF brigade will continue to carry out operations through strategic cooperation with the relevant departments and agencies,” he said.
The operation also involved the Environment Department, the Malaysian Inland Revenue Board, the Natural Resources and Environment Board, the Sri Aman District Council, the Sibu local authorities, the Bintulu Development Authority, and the Miri City Council.
