SHAH ALAM, Apr 6 — The Selangor Department of Environment (JAS) has halted operations of a concrete batching plant in Bandar Baru Bangi after it was found to be polluting air and water.
In a statement, JAS said the action followed an investigation into a complaint at a high-rise residential construction site in Section 1 on April 2.
“The investigation found that cement wash water was flowing into public drains, and the air pollution control equipment, specifically the bag filter, was in an unsatisfactory condition.
“Accordingly, an Operations Suspension Order (POK) has been issued on the inlet and wash water pipes under Section 38 of the Environmental Quality Act 1974,” it said.
JAS also issued a directive for the premises to carry out maintenance on the wash ponds and replace the bag filters immediately to prevent dust pollution.
Continuous monitoring will be conducted to ensure the premises comply with regulations, and legal action may be taken in cases of non-compliance.
