Over 200 held in raid on illegal settlements in Setia Alam

SHAH ALAM, Apr 6 — Three illegal settlements around Setia Alam, believed to have existed for between five and nine years, were raided simultaneously in an integrated operation carried out by the Selangor Immigration Department.

The settlements were found to be equipped with electricity and water facilities.

During the raid, a total of 356 foreign nationals were inspected, with 214 detained for various immigration offences. All detainees were taken to the Semenyih Immigration Depot for remand and further investigation.

A total of 303 officers and personnel were involved in the operation, comprising members from the Selangor Immigration Department, the Immigration Department of Malaysia’s (JIM) headquarters in Putrajaya, the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department, the Negeri Sembilan Immigration Department and the Penang Immigration Department, according to a statement by Immigration Selangor on Facebook.

The operation was also assisted by several other agencies, including the General Operations Force (PGA), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), National Registration Department (JPN), Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).

During a press conference at the operation site, Selangor Immigration director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin urged foreign nationals who have committed immigration offences to take the opportunity to return to their home countries.

“Foreign nationals who have committed immigration offences are urged to take the opportunity to return to their home countries voluntarily through the Migrant Repatriation Programme 2.0 (PRM),” he said.

The programme is scheduled to end on April 30, 2026.
