SHAH ALAM, April 2 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj yesterday left for Nagoya, Japan, for a Tengku Permaisuri Selangor (TPS) Ceramic Hub strategic cooperation programme, upon invitation by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
His Royal Highness was accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, who is also UiTM pro-chancellor.
“TPS Ceramic Hub is set to be realised through cooperation with ceramic institutions and industries in Aichi and Gifu prefectures in Japan, which are known as global ceramic industry hubs, with rich history and tradition and the production of high-quality ceramic art,” the Selangor Royal Office said in a Facebook post.
Accompanying the Royal couple are UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Shahrin Sahib@Sahibbudin, UiTM legal adviser Prof Hartini Saripan, and UiTM Art and Design Faculty (Industrial Ceramic Department) senior lecturers.

Yesterday, Their Royal Highnesses visited Noritake Garden, a cultural and industrial complex that reflects the developmental history of Noritake ceramics.
The visit encompassed Noritake Museum, a craft centre, a design studio, and a culture park that showed the integration of the ceramic industry, innovation of design, and cultural tourism, which is a strategic reference to develop the TPS Ceramic Hub in UiTM.

Their Royal Highnesses also visited Nagoya Castle, where Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin tried on a kimono as a sign of respect for local culture.
The visit is set to inspire and strategically guide the empowerment of the ceramics-based creative industry in Selangor, in line with the state government and UiTM’s efforts to develop the local art and design sector.
