SHAH ALAM, April 3 — KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) has taken responsibility for waste collection issues in the first three months of its new contract with the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), said its managing director Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir.
“I acknowledge and take full responsibility for what happened during those three months. It was not planned,” he told Media Selangor when asked for a response to MBSJ’s plan to issue deduction notices for KDEBWM’s service failures.
“If we are at fault, there are mechanisms such as notices of action and deduction, and we accept them. For us, this is not pressure, but a form of accountability that we must bear.”
Ramli said MBSJ, as the contracting party managing operations funded by Subang Jaya taxpayers, has full authority to take enforcement actions such as by issuing notices and deducting charges against any shortcomings, per the service level agreement (SLA) signed between the two parties.
He asserted that KDEBWM, which has been operating in Selangor since 2016, must meet service standards it promises to local councils and residents.
“We are not new in this field. For the past 10 years, we have maintained certain standards and we must ensure those are translated into operations in the area,” he said.
Ramli reminded residents that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility, urging the public to understand waste collection schedules and put their trash out at appropriate times to ensure smooth collection operations.
On March 31, The Star reported that from April, MBSJ would issue deduction notices to KDEBWM for performance failures.
Subang Jaya Mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim said the council would look at these shortfalls on a case-to-case basis, following reports of inconsistent rubbish collection at residential and commercial premises.
MBSJ said KDEBWM risks a minimum deduction of RM1,000 from its service fee if the company under-delivers.
