SHAH ALAM, April 2 — The state government is ready for potential cost hikes in organising the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026 as the West Asia conflict persists, said state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.
He said the Selangor SUKMA Secretariat will bring up the matter of logistics price hikes, especially involving fuel consumption, to the SUKMA Supreme Committee chaired by Youth and Sports Minister Mohamed Taufiq Johari soon.
“For now, if diesel prices rise dramatically, the state government must bear the costs and it would be a huge challenge, but accommodation expenditure for athletes and (sports) officers won’t be affected.
“This unexpected situation is hard to predict and depends on decisions by the federal government through the Youth and Sports Ministry, so Selangor will obtain views from the supreme committee on the implications of these hikes,” he told a press conference after attending the relaunch ceremony of a Giant Hypermarket outlet in Section 13 here today.

He also said preparations for the biennial sporting event are going smoothly and on schedule without any disruptions so far.
“There have been no demands to postpone SUKMA in Selangor due to the conflict,” Najwan added.
The 22nd edition of SUKMA will be held in Selangor from August 15 to 24 with an opening ceremony at the Sepang International Circuit, while the Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to 14.
