HULU LANGAT, March 30 — No panic buying has been detected among consumers in the Balakong and Cheras areas, as the public continues to shop rationally, prioritising daily necessities.
However, a Media Selangor survey found that most consumers are controlling their spending amid economic uncertainty, practising frugality.
Cheras Jaya village head Azharudin Md Ali said the current situation regarding the purchase of goods remains stable and under control, with no unusual surge.
“Although there has been an increase in prices for certain goods, it has not been drastic enough to trigger panic buying. So far, purchasing remains under control, and most consumers are only buying daily necessities.
“Some items, such as eggs, run out quickly, but the situation is still manageable,” he said during the Jualan Ehsan Rahmah (JER) programme at Masjid Taman Cheras Jaya's compound yesterday.

Meanwhile, a couple from Balakong, Karmila Jamadi and Mohd Azizan A Wahid, said they practise moderate spending in line with their needs.
“We only buy what is necessary. So far, there has been no panic buying even though items such as cooking oil and eggs are sometimes limited,” they said.
Karmila and Azizan added that the economic situation is somewhat challenging, but the JER initiative has greatly helped to reduce the burden of daily expenses.

Similarly, local resident Aqila Azaha plans her purchases by buying only what is necessary and admits that she does not stockpile.
“I compare prices before buying. Some items such as rice run out quickly, so we need to plan purchases wisely.
“I do not stockpile and only buy when supplies are depleted,” she said.

Another resident, Nurliana Ismail, said she now focuses more on essential goods compared to before.
“I am more frugal now and usually shop once a month. Items such as rice and cooking oil sometimes run out quickly, but I do not buy excessively,” she said, commending the JER programme for helping the public cope with the cost of living.
