SHAH ALAM, March 27 — Selangor is focusing on the Asian market, including China, Japan, Taiwan, and ASEAN members, to keep up its tourism sector’s momentum.
This strategic step follows the West Asia conflict, which is set to affect international tourist arrivals, especially from the Gulf region and Europe.
State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim told Media Selangor that tensions in West Asia between Iran, the United States and Israel and the Strait of Hormuz block is among factors influencing global tourist movements.
However, he said the Selangor government would refine its strategies and look into the conflict’s implications on the tourism sector, adding that promotional strategies would be relooked periodically to ensure the continued development of the state’s tourism industry.
Selangor will also strengthen its tourism campaign under the Visit Selangor Year 2026 and Visit Malaysia 2026 initiatives.
“We will ramp up promotions in Asian markets and encourage domestic tourism among Malaysians to balance out any decline in foreign tourist arrivals,” Ng added.
“We will continue monitoring the current situation and adjust tourism targets periodically to ensure this sector remains resilient. No need to go far; Selangor is here,” Ng said.
