Yayasan MBI donates RM200,000 to archery, rugby teams ahead of SUKMA

SHAH ALAM, March 27 — Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, is sponsoring the archery and rugby teams representing the state at the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026 in August.

Yayasan MBI chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said each squad would receive RM100,000 for training and to help Selangor win medals.

“God willing, we will help these two teams as usual. Last year we gave the same amount to support these teams.

“In general, MBI itself will be directly involved in this biennial event. We will make sure Selangor can win many medals,” he told Media Selangor.

In February, Selangor State Sports Council executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi said the state is aiming to earn around 80 gold medals at SUKMA 2026.

He added that the target is for state athletes to win 15 to 20 per cent of the 474 events to be contested in 37 types of sports.

At SUKMA Sarawak 2024, Selangor met its top-three target with 181 medals — 56 gold, 64 silver, and 61 bronze.

SUKMA Selangor 2026 will be held from August 15 to 24, with the opening ceremony at the Sepang International Circuit, while Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to 14.

Ten sports are being contested at Para SUKMA Selangor 2026, including swimming, athletics, badminton, ping pong, tenpin bowling, lawn bowls, archery, chess, boccia, and powerlifting.
