SEPANG, March 25 — A poignant yet joyful atmosphere enveloped the Sepang Residents’ Reintegration Centre (PRP) as Persons Under Supervision (ODS), particularly Muslims, were given the opportunity to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri with their families.
The programme serves as an important platform in the rehabilitation process, allowing residents to spend quality time with their loved ones in a highly emotional setting.
Sepang PRP deputy chief Mohammad Hilmi Rasol said the initiative aims to ensure that residents continue to receive family support before returning to society, as a family-based approach is crucial in helping ODS undergo personal transformation towards a better life.
“In essence, what we want is to move forward by highlighting a rehabilitation system that prioritises family support. Here, we aim to reintegrate ODS so they can become self-reliant and return to society without prejudice.
“They are in the process of change, as our rehabilitation efforts are to help them regain the trust of their families and the community. They can change,” he said.
Hilmi added that Aidilfitri celebrations involving ODS and their families are also organised during other festive seasons to ensure that residents continue to receive familial support.
The centre has received positive feedback from families thus far, with appointment bookings opened a week prior to meeting dates.
“Festive visits are held during all major celebrations in our country. This time, however, we want to emphasise our rehabilitation system, which places greater importance on family support,” he said.
The Sepang PRP, located in Kampung Ulu Teris, is a final-phase rehabilitation centre under the Malaysian Prison Department, housing 457 residents serving remaining sentences of three years or less.
All ODS are provided with various skills, including agriculture, sewing, and cooking, as well as opportunities to serve within the community and work with industry partners.
