SHAH ALAM, March 20 — Members of the public hosting open houses this Aidilfitri are advised to follow guidelines issued by the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) to avoid disruptions to the water supply during the festive season.
The agency emphasised that proper management of both liquid and solid waste is essential to preserve water sources.
“They must ensure that food waste and solid rubbish are collected and disposed of at official disposal sites for proper handling by the authorities to prevent pollution. Disposal of food waste or rubbish into rivers is strictly prohibited as it can contaminate rivers and cause water disruptions,” the agency said in a Facebook post.
LUAS also reminded the public that used cooking oil should be collected and brought to recycling centres rather than poured down sinks or drains.
“Handle waste, whether liquid or solid, properly to avoid water supply problems,” the agency stressed.
Earlier, infrastructure executive councillor Dato’ Izham Hashim said LUAS had deployed the Water Elite Squad to conduct 24-hour monitoring of the Sungai Selangor and Sungai Langat basins.
Monitoring covers three strategic locations upstream of major water treatment plants, hourly in-situ sampling, and nine daily patrols across 14 high-risk areas to ensure any pollution incidents are quickly managed and water treatment operations are not disrupted.
