SHAH ALAM, March 17 — Fifteen trainees from the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) have been selected to participate in the GE Vernova Energy Industry Skills Scholarship Programme for eight months until September.
The programme is the result of a strategic collaboration between GE Vernova and the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC), aimed at strengthening the development of a skilled workforce in the energy sector.
The initiative also involves the GE Vernova Foundation and Assist International to support technical training for students enrolled in the Chargeman (AO) course at the institution.
“This scholarship programme is part of a strategic collaboration between GE Vernova, the GE Vernova Foundation, Assist International, and FMSDC, which aims to support technical training for students undertaking the AO course at STDC.
“Under this initiative, GE Vernova provides financial support of RM6,000 for each trainee, bringing the total scholarship contribution to RM90,000,” the STDC said in a statement.
The STDC organised the launch ceremony of the GE Vernova Energy Industry Skills Scholarship Programme at its technical training centre yesterday, which was also attended by GE Vernova and Assist International's leadership.
The ceremony marked the official commencement of the scholarship programme and highlighted the importance of industry collaboration in developing highly skilled technical talent for the national energy sector.
It added that partners were also given the opportunity to observe STDC’s technical training environment and interact directly with the participants during the event.
“Through this collaboration, STDC and its industry partners aim to continue strengthening skills training that is relevant to industry needs, while producing a new generation of technical professionals who will support the development of Malaysia’s energy industry in the future,” the STDC said.
STDC, which was rebranded in 2020, is a technical education institution under the state government, with Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI as the largest shareholder.
