12 arrested in connection with Puchong arson case

SHAH ALAM, March — The arson and criminal intimidation case in the Taman Kinrara residential area, Puchong, which occurred last week, is considered resolved after police arrested 12 individuals believed to be involved.

Selangor Police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said 11 men and one woman aged between 30 and 40 were taken in to assist investigations.

“Of the 12 arrested, seven suspects have been identified as directly linked to the incident and remain in remand to aid investigations, while five others have been released on police bail, including the woman who is the wife of one of the suspects,” he said at a press conference at the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters today.

The arrests were made through a joint operation involving the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Selangor CID, and the Serdang District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division from March 12 until yesterday at several locations.

Police also seized three cars — a Toyota Vios, Honda City, and Nissan Almera — as well as two motorcycles (Honda Wave and Yamaha Y16), 14 mobile phones, a helmet, and clothing believed to have been used by the suspects during the incidents.

Checks on their records revealed that five of the seven suspects currently in custody have previous criminal records involving various offences. However, urine screening tests conducted on all those arrested returned negative results for drugs.

Shazeli said investigations are being conducted under Section 427, Section 506 and Section 435 of the Penal Code to determine the exact motive behind the incident.

Initial investigations indicate that the incident was likely triggered by dissatisfaction and personal grievances, which led to acts of arson and criminal intimidation.

He added that police have also arrested the individual believed to be the main planner behind the incident.

“So far, our investigations have not found any involvement of secret society elements in the case,” he said.

Shazeli also advised the public not to speculate or spread provocative statements on social media that could disrupt public order while investigations are ongoing.
