SHAH ALAM, March 15 — Approximately 1,000 Jom Shopping Perayaan vouchers worth RM200 each have been distributed to low-income (B40) residents in the Kota Anggerik state constituency, in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Its state assemblyman Mohd Najwan Halimi said the number of vouchers increased compared with 800 eligible recipients last year, following population growth in the area.

“This enables more residents to receive assistance while helping them prepare the necessities to celebrate Aidilfitri.

“This aid certainly has an impact on the community, especially the B40 group. With the value of RM200, they can redeem various essential items, including clothing and food,” he said after handing over the vouchers to residents yesterday.

Meanwhile, housewife Asiah Amir said the contribution would be used to purchase necessities for preparing dishes for the first morning of Aidilfitri.

“Half of the festive preparations are already done, and today I only need to buy fresh ingredients. This assistance truly eases the burden on my family, given the current economic situation,” she said.

Senior citizen Mohd Khir Ahmad Din, 77, who received the voucher for the first time, said the RM200 would be used in full to purchase festive items, including dry food products.

“I thank the Selangor state government. With this assistance, I can prepare festive items for my children and grandchildren who will return home to celebrate Aidilfitri.

“Every year I also receive the senior citizen assistance in conjunction with my birthday, which also helps reduce household expenses,” he said.

This year, 38,400 vouchers under the Jom Shopping Aidilfitri Programme are being distributed to eligible recipients throughout Selangor, involving a RM7.68 million allocation.

State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman said the voucher distribution involves 56 state constituencies to assist target groups in making preparations ahead of the festive season.

The voucher usage period has also been extended until Friday (March 20), compared with the original date of Wednesday (March 18), to allow the Muslim community more time to prepare and shop ahead of Aidilfitri.
