MBPJ drafts 2026–2035 local plan to guide city's development

PETALING JAYA, March 14 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is drafting the Petaling Jaya Local Plan (Replacement) 2026–2035 to guide the city’s development direction for the next 10 years.

Mayor Dato’ Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the plan will serve as the main reference for planning the city’s physical development, economic growth, and mobility systems.

“This document not only covers land use aspects but also guides the future direction of the environment and community well-being.

“The preparation of this plan also takes into account input from various parties, including suggestions and ideas shared by members of the Petaling Jaya Children’s Council,” he said.

He said this at a press conference following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between MBPJ and the Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP) here today.

Zahri added that MBPJ has 22 strategic and urban action plans covering various aspects, including social well-being, urban mobility, sustainable environment, community safety, public space development, and urban economic development.

“All these plans are implemented following engagement sessions with various stakeholders, including government agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and local communities.

“This ensures that urban planning carried out by MBPJ truly reflects the aspirations of the community,” he said.
