SHAH ALAM, March 14 — A total of 40,400 Jom Shopping vouchers worth RM200 each will be distributed to low-income groups in conjunction with Aidilfitri this year.
State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman said the initiative, which involves an allocation of RM8.08 million, is hoped to ease recipients’ burden in preparing for the celebration.
“This substantial fund demonstrates the state administration’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all segments of society in Selangor.
“So far, the distribution of vouchers across the state has not been fully completed as the programme is scheduled to run until the deadline on March 18,” he told Media Selangor.
The RM200 Jom Shopping vouchers were introduced to help families earning below RM3,000 purchase essential items at selected supermarkets during major festivals.
This year, the state government has allocated RM18.48 million for the programme, RM2 million more than last year, which will benefit 92,400 recipients in preparing for Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali.
The state has also introduced the RM200 Jom Shopping Hari Pahlawan Negara vouchers for 8,317 veterans, with a total allocation of RM1.7 million.
