SHAH ALAM, March 13 — Two waste-to-energy (WTE) plants in Jeram, Kuala Selangor, are scheduled to be fully operational in April, marking a new phase in the state as waste management shifts from traditional landfill sites to modern technology.
KDEB Waste Management's (KDEBWM) senior general manager of corporate services Ahmad Rizal Mohd Daud said the new technology will not only improve the efficiency of solid waste management but also create a cleaner environment while reducing odour pollution.
“This modern technology must be utilised to ensure the state remains clean, as recycling alone is insufficient as a future waste management strategy.
"It is also expected to attract more locals to venture into the waste management sector," he said during the Ramadan appreciation programme with cleaning sector workers organised by Yayasan Amal Persatuan Alumni Sekolah Alam Shah (ASAS), in collaboration with KDEBWM through its subsidiary KDEB ICI Sdn Bhd in Shah Alam yesterday.

The event, which was also supported by ILTIZAM by Ekuinas, aimed to appreciate the contributions and sacrifices of cleaning crews and lorry drivers who ensure solid waste management and urban cleanliness remain at their best every day, including throughout Ramadan.
100 workers, comprising lorry drivers, attendants, and cleaning workers, received basic necessities contributions during the programme.
Meanwhile, Rizal said cleaning crews and lorry drivers are unsung heroes who often go unnoticed but play a major role in ensuring the well-being of society.
He added that the initiative is also in line with KDEBWM's ongoing efforts to cultivate a culture of appreciating frontline workers while strengthening the values of togetherness and social concern.
