SHAH ALAM, Mar 10 — The success of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) should not be measured solely by visitor numbers or transaction value, but by its ability to build a stronger and more resilient business ecosystem, said state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han.
The state government considers the summit as a platform to strengthen economic resilience and expand opportunities for local companies.
“For the Selangor government, the success of SIBS is not measured only by the number of visitors or the value of potential transactions.
“What is more important is that we create a more resilient ecosystem, and that is the main objective of organising SIBS,” he told the media after the SIBS Direction Outlook 2026 Panel Forum and fast-breaking event at the Concorde Hotel today.
Without mentioning this year’s target, Ng said that Selangor is aiming to surpass last year’s RM8.17 billion in potential transaction value, with a goal of 50,000 visitors and 850 exhibition booths.
The previous edition recorded about 62,025 visitors, reflecting the event's continued growth.
Meanwhile, the role of Invest Selangor Bhd goes beyond attracting high-impact investments into the state.
“The responsibility of Invest Selangor is not only to bring high-impact investments into Selangor, but also to help companies that are ready, especially those based in Selangor, to explore a larger market in ASEAN,” he said.
Therefore, the state will expand the summit’s reach through SIBS@ASEAN, a new initiative aimed at strengthening regional business connections and providing Selangor companies with greater access to markets across Southeast Asia.
Since the launch of SIBS in 2015 as Selangor’s annual trade event, the summit has grown significantly, with visitor numbers rising from 4,316 in its first year to a peak of 57,249 in 2023, while potential transaction value reached a record RM13.85 billion in 2024.
To date, SIBS has generated a cumulative RM30.56 billion in potential transaction value, reinforcing Selangor’s position as a major economic engine in Malaysia.
