SHAH ALAM, Aug 25 — The state government is exploring new opportunities in Cambodia to expand access for local products while driving export opportunities into the ASEAN market.

State executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said the Malaysia-Cambodia Business Seminar in Phnom Penh, which his delegation recently attended, focused on opportunities in the Cambodian market and Malaysia’s role as a trusted sourcing partner for the region, among other things.

“Missions such as this are carried out with one objective: to open up actual markets for local companies. As Selangor’s leadership in investment and trade, this is one of the key efforts we are undertaking.

“Malaysian and Selangor businesses, from the manufacturing to the services sectors, are well positioned to become trusted partners and suppliers,” he said in a Facebook post.

Every new overseas market successfully entered will contribute to increased orders, higher exports, and new growth opportunities for businesses and the workforce at home.

Ng added that the Export Acceleration Mission initiative focused on strengthening trade networks, opening new market opportunities, and connecting Selangor industry players with strategic partners and the business community in Cambodia.

“The meetings also provided Selangor with an opportunity to understand developments in the Cambodian market, while identifying opportunities that local companies could leverage to expand their operations and broaden their export markets.

“Cambodia is seen as having significant potential as an export destination due to its economic growth and the development of its business sector, as well as its position as part of the ASEAN market, which has an extensive regional trade network,” he said.

Bilateral trade between Malaysia and Cambodia reached RM5 billion in 2025, while trade during the first half of 2026 surged 51.1 per cent year-on-year to RM3.32 billion.
