KUALA LANGAT, March 8 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj graced the officiating ceremony of Masjid An-Nur Kampung Kanchong Tengah, in conjunction with the Ihya’ Ramadan programme yesterday.
He was accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.
The mosque, which sits on a 2.1-acre plot of land, was built at a cost of RM600,000 and serves as a centre of worship and religious activities for the local community.
It was built in the early 1960s and began operating in 1982, replacing the old mosque with a wooden structure.
It is able to accommodate up to 300 congregants at any one time.
At the same event, the Sultan presented Aidilfitri contributions worth RM247,500 to 495 individuals, with each receiving RM500, reflecting the concern shown by the royal institution and state government in assisting those in need.
His Royal Highness then broke fast and performed the Maghrib, Isyak and tarawih prayers with the locals.
Also present were Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari, Selangor State Secretary Dato’ Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin, state executive council for Islam Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah, and Selangor Islamic Religious Department director Dato’ Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad.
