SHAH ALAM, Feb 23 — Approximately 38,400 vouchers under the Jom Shopping Hari Raya Aidilfitri Festive Programme will be distributed to eligible recipients this year, involving a RM7.68 million allocation.

State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman said the distribution of the vouchers covers 56 state constituencies throughout Selangor to assist the targeted groups in making preparations ahead of the celebration.

The voucher usage period has been extended from March 18 to March 20 to allow the Muslim community more time to prepare and shop before Aidilfitri.

“The state government will continue to monitor and ensure that the implementation of the Jom Shopping Festive Programme is carried out thoroughly for the smooth running of the programme and the welfare of the people,” he said in a statement.

Earlier today, Papparaidu chaired a coordination meeting with supermarkets to implement the programme.

The meeting involved strategic cooperation with NSK Grocer, Lotus’s Malaysia, MYDIN, Giant Malaysia, Best Fresh Mart, Econsave, TF Value-Mart, Grand Union Supermarket, NSK Trading, and Sri Ternak Food Mart.

He said coordination is important to ensure the programme is implemented smoothly and transparently, and benefits the targeted groups, particularly in helping ease people’s burden ahead of Aidilfitri.

At the same time, the councillor stressed that supply shortage issues must not occur throughout the programme’s implementation period.

“All participating supermarkets must ensure that essential items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour, chicken, and other main food items are provided in sufficient quantities,” Papparaidu said.

The RM200 Jom Shopping Festive voucher was introduced to assist families earning below RM3,000 to purchase essential goods at selected supermarkets.

This year, the state government has allocated RM18.48 million for the programme, including an additional RM2 million compared to last year, to benefit 92,400 recipients in preparing for Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali.

It has also introduced RM200 Jom Shopping National Warriors’ Day vouchers for 8,317 veterans, with a total allocation of RM1.7 million.
